Courses & Master’s Degree in Sacred Art

books

Are you interested in learning more about Sacred Art? Turns out, there’s a degree for that.

Pontifex University offers online courses and a Master’s degree in Sacred Art. You can learn more about the program by listening to this podcast on Catholic Exchange where David Clayton, Provost of Pontifex University, describes the program and the importance of combining the study of art, theology and philosophy. He says,

“It’s quite a deep immersion and an understanding and a formation in Catholic culture which will direct the brush, so to speak.”

Clayton describes several courses, such as one where students are able to study scripture along with visual imagery. Courses aren’t just for artists, but for anyone interested in the study of art and beauty.

I’m intrigued!

The intellect is so crucial in both creating and understanding beauty. Without context and understanding of a subject, artists may suffer from a lack of depth and richness in their works. Likewise, the beholder of a work is limited without understanding the deeper contexts, imagery, and symbolism of art. Our culture deperately needs a deeper understanding of art and beauty. Excellent post!
